The Milky Way (Indianapolis): Support for Moms

A SPIRITUAL & EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT GROUP FOR LOCAL WOMEN

They say it takes a village... And we're sick of waiting for the village to show up!

So, here we are: The Milky Way--a support group with the sole purpose of supporting local mothers. Here, we know how hard it is to be a mom, no matter what kind of mom you are. We all share the same pain. So many of us feel unsupported and left on the back burner, isolated, burned out, in pain and suffering... We know there's a better way for things to be run.

Here in The Milky Way, we believe that when we support mothers, the entire universe will flourish as a result. When we take care of the mother, her entire world will change for the better--that's our big-picture vision here. We have a mom-centric model of the universe, so to speak. SHE exists at the very center of her own beautiful spiral galaxy and creates her world around her. When she is properly taken care of, she creates a beautiful world: full of nurturing, peace, wonder, creativity, compassion, and joy. The world around her becomes a beautiful place to live. Her kids are better for it, all of her relationships are better for it, her community is better for it, and she is able to create the life she has always dreamed of. She is supported. She is able to take the world by storm with her own vision now. Whether that's a vision of a peaceful home, a vision of her dream career, a vision of freedom, a vision of her kids, or a vision of changing the world, The Milky Way supports her.

Who it's for:

Mothers in the Indianapolis area. That is the only criteria for this localized test-group!

Group Values:

So you know you're in alignment with the vision we'd like to create, some of our values are: peace, compassion, empathy, empowerment, justice, growth, unconditional love, truth, creativity, freedom, wisdom, accountability, spirituality (non-denominational), connectedness (with ourselves, the earth, the universe, and each other), prosperity, holistic (whole-picture) health and well-being.

Some Goals:

We have a lot of goals within this group and could paint a picture of the big picture for hours and hours! However, here are a few:

1. Create a tight-knit group, and tight-knit connections among members--so they have a stable and trustworthy local support system when they need it.

2. Create public and private spaces for these women and their families to meet and build connections with others in their area with similar values.

3. Create a volunteer/donation/barter-based network of local moms and those who wish to support them.

4. Compile resources (educational AND material) to distribute amongst group members.

5. Partner with local businesses to offer donation-based, barter, or pay-what-you-can services for things like housekeeping, yard care, haircuts, and more necessities that we might struggle to afford on occasion.

6. Plan events, workshops, classes, field trips, retreats, and more--for moms, mom and her kids, and kids of all ages.

7. A subgroup Sacred Circle for (non-denominational) spiritual healing and soul expansion.

8. Education that empowers: promote freedom on all levels and overall well-being for all ages. Book clubs, writing classes, personal development classes, business development classes, resume writing workshops, media analysis classes (fun for mom AND kids!)--to just name a few.

9. Assemble panels of expert speakers, and connect with women around the world--hear what life is like in other countries (and perhaps experience it for yourself!) We will formulate/discuss changes we'd like to see locally and in America overall.

10. Run fundraisers, charities, clothing drives, food drives etc. and give all proceeds back to the moms in the group. Any excess will be donated to Thrifty Threads (https://www.juliancenter.org/thrifty-threads/) or to other moms in the community.

How We Will Operate:

Our top priority is the safety and well-being of mothers and their children. The evolution of the group will flow in the direction that its members choose. We will make decisions together as to where our resources will go and how we will help everyone in the best way possible in the present moment. Once we have established a stable base of support for our smaller startup group we will be able to expand outwards into helping the community around us. When we have a system in place that's fine-tuned and works really well and could be replicated, we will make all of the information and instructions readily available online so other people can start similar groups in their areas.
